REASONS I LEFT CORPORATE

I’ve heard it a million times: “Why did you leave a stable job?”

The assumption is always the same: burnout, an unruly boss, a sudden snap of “I can’t do this anymore” or not earning enough money.  And sure, there were days like that.

But the real reason? It’s simpler and deeper.  I left corporate because I wanted to breathe.  I wanted to stop measuring my worth by someone else’s performance review and targets making my team mates feel less than.  Where are the one's seriously interested in working together as a team?  Where one can recognise their teams strengths and empower them to reach their heights, in turn creating absolute magic for the business instead of moulding a being into what they think they should be, another minion, a follower?  I wanted to stop squeezing my soul into a system built for control and profit, not people and possibility.

Honestly? I wanted to see what I was made of when I wasn’t being managed (aka manipulated). I didn’t just quit and flail.

I stepped into real estate for 14 years and found myself in a world that wasn’t corporate but wasn’t exactly safe either because in this field, agents are working their butts off but not earning their worth.  It was in that in-between that I found it:

Independence.  Autonomy.  The freedom to set my own standards and work from a place of yes, not fear.  Being away from the control dramas of corporate is how I grew my love for independence and stepped into a more conscious parenting role, being the breadwinner and nurturer of a family of 4.  It’s how I learned to bet on myself.  It’s how I discovered that making money and making meaning could actually be the same thing, if I was willing to do it my way, following my inner compass.

Now, whenever someone asks why I left, I smile and remember that it wasn't about the job, it was about my children and I.

Maybe if you’re here, reading this, you’re feeling it too.  Maybe not in the corporate sense but from the sense of control and being bullied in the space where you are creating an income for others.

If you're feeling it, you're not crazy, you're remembering who you are and following your true narrative for this life.  You're allowed to want more space, truth and sovereignty.

To those who are leading businesses or organisations in a way that’s soul led and empowering, not soul destroying and fear-based, hats off to you!  Thank you for reminding us what’s possible when people come first, not profit.

May we all keep building spaces like that, where truth, growth and gentle power can thrive for the highest good of humanity.

Love you,

Keilah
